Criteria

The recipient of the Otto Naegeli Prize is selected by the Award Council; the selection is based on a multi-stage process. The Award Council consists of the former awardees and the President of the Foundation Board. The Award Council draws up proposals for further evaluation and then makes the decision, taking external expert opinions into account. No one can apply for the prize himself/herself.

The main criteria for selection are:

• international and national reputation
• originality of research
• scientific achievements to date and future potential
• additional contributions to the medical science community (e.g. young scientists, service in positions of responsibility, participation in committees and society, good citizenship)
